ODU Graduate Elected Mayor of Portsmouth
Kenny Wright, a graduate of Old Dominion University, was elected mayor of the city of Portsmouth on Nov. 2. The 47-year-old engineer received a bachelor's degree in engineering technology in 1991.
A first-time candidate, Wright has served on the city's finance committee and as chair of the Portsmouth Schools Foundation.
According to a story in the Nov. 3 Virginian-Pilot, Wright, who has an engineering firm in downtown Portsmouth, "recognizes the value of investing in the city's historic core and, as the economy recovers, the need to spread revitalization efforts outward into other business districts and neighborhoods."
