Annual Illumination Celebration Hosted by ODU President Broderick Moved Inside Because of Cold Weather
The forecast of frigid temperatures and wind chill has forced organizers to move ODU's "Annual Illumination Celebration" on Tuesday, Dec. 7 inside of Webb Center.
The 10th-annual celebration, hosted by President and Mrs. John R. Broderick, will still feature the grand illumination of a campus wreath, garlands and trees on Kaufman Mall in front of Webb University.
The free event is the official kickoff of the holiday season at ODU, and will feature a gingerbread cookie decorating contest.
The program begins with the gingerbread cookie decorating contest, at 4:15 p.m. in the North Mall of Webb Center. At 5:15, a short program featuring a holiday greeting by President Broderick will be followed by the official "lighting" of ODU's holiday decorations. The program will also feature a performance by the Larchmont Elementary School Chorus.
The event is free, but participants in the ginberbread cookie decorating contest, along with other attendees, are asked to bring a non-perishable food item for the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia, and/or a toy for a child to be donated to ForKids, Inc.
The cookie decorating contest will be judged by Kate Broderick, wife of President Broderick, along with representatives from the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia, ForKids Inc. and the Larchmont/Edgewater Civic League.
