ODU's Illumination Celebration/Cookie Decorating Contest a Big Hit with the Kids
Cold weather moved Old Dominion's annual Illumination celebration and gingerbread cookie decorating contest indoors, but the freezing temperatures outside couldn't put a chill on the holiday spirit in Webb Center's North Mall Tuesday evening.
With music by the Larchmont Elementary School Chorus, and plenty of colorful sprinkles, gum drops and icing available to decorate the gingerbread cookies laid out on tables before them, neighborhood children and the children of ODU faculty and staff clearly enjoyed the festive atmosphere. Even the young at heart were encouraged to channel their inner child and decorate cookies.
The event, hosted by President and Mrs. John R. Broderick, also collected food for the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and toys for ForKids Inc. The program ended with hot drinks and cookies for those in attendance, and the lighting of a holiday wreath and trees at the entrance to Webb Center.
