MULTICULTURAL BOOK CLUB DEBUTS ON CAMPUS TODAY
The Office of Multicultural Student Services will debut its Multicultural Book Club Monday, Oct. 30, with an appearance on campus by Letha Dawson Scanzoni, author of "Is the Homosexual My Neighbor?: A Positive Christian Response."
The Library Journal describes it as "a compassionate, persuasive case for a fundamental shift in Christian attitudes."
Eugene McAvoy, instructor of English, will moderate a discussion with Scanzoni starting at 7 p.m. in the Hampton/
Newport News Room of Webb Center.
"The Office of Multicultural Student Services is committed to developing a university community where all members can learn about, and communicate and interact effectively and positively with diverse individuals and cultural groups," said Lesa C. Clark, interim director.
"Each month, in conjunction with the national acknowledgement of a cultural or ethnic group, the Multicultural Book Club will highlight a book that focuses on that group."
The books will be available at the MBC display in the University Bookstore. Faculty and staff are invited to nominate books and lead discussions. For more information contact Clark at firstname.lastname@example.org.
