MODEL U.N. CELEBRATES UNITED NATIONS DAY FRIDAY
The Old Dominion University Model United Nations Society will celebrate United Nations Day with a General Assembly plenary simulation Friday, Oct. 27.
The event, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Hampton/Newport News Room in Webb Center, marks the 61st anniversary of the day the U.N. charter went into effect. It is titled "Peace, Security and Human Rights."
President Roseanne Runte will deliver the opening address. Students representing the member states of the United Nations will then hold discussion sessions and address world topics relating to peace, security and human rights.
Joshua Redmond, a junior international studies and political science major, will serve as the secretary-general. The under secretaries-general are Valerie Sprouse, a junior international studies major, Terry G. Jones, Jr, a senior political science major, and Matthew L. Grizzle, a sophomore political science major. Carolyn Veloria, a junior foreign language and literature major, will serve as president of the General Assembly. Stephanie Lloyd, president of the Model United Nations Society and a senior political science major, will serve as chair of the General Assembly.
