Update on ODU Opening for Students

Old Dominion University is expecting power to be restored to the residence halls as soon as possible. Assuming that power is indeed restored in a timely manner, students may move into the residence halls on Tuesday and classes would begin on Wednesday.

Please note: If power is not restored as expected, these dates may change. An update on whether power has been restored or not, will be announced by 10 a.m., Monday, Aug. 29.

The university is experiencing widespread phone outages. For urgent questions, please use email contacts for offices, which can be found in the online directory here http://www.odu.edu/oduhome/directories.shtml. We appreciate your patience as we work to get our systems up and running.

Provided that power is restored, students may begin moving into the residence halls beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30. Students who have already checked in, can go directly to their rooms/residence hall beginning at 10 a.m. You will not be able to enter your residence hall any sooner than 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Students who have not yet checked in should report to the Ted Constant Convocation Center according to the following schedule:

10 a.m. - Noon: Students with last name starting with S-Z

Noon - 2 p.m.: Students with last name starting with M-R

2 p.m. - 4 p.m.: Students with last name starting with E-L

4 p.m. - 6 p.m.: Students with last name starting with A-D

You may check in later than the above time if needed, but you may not check in any earlier than your slotted time.

RAs should report to campus anytime after 8 a.m. Monday, Aug. 29, provided it is personally safe for them to do so. Any questions or concerns should be directed to chenry@odu.edu.

It is anticipated that tuition and registration-related deadlines will be adjusted for the new opening schedule. As soon as it is ready, the new deadlines will be distributed.

Students will receive information about rescheduled welcome activities as soon as a new schedule is finalized.
