Fundraising 5K Run/Walk to Help with Medical Expenses for Daughter of Former Athletics Graduate Assistant
A fundraising 5K run and walk will be held Sunday, Nov. 20, in Hampton to benefit the family of an Old Dominion University alumna and former Athletics graduate assistant whose daughter will undergo brain surgery next month.
Charlie Claire North, the daughter of Kristin Cortellini, a graduate of ODU's master's program in sport management, started having seizures when she was three days old, stemming from an area of her brain that did not form properly in utero.
She underwent brain surgery in March, but that hasn't stopped the seizures from occurring. A second surgery is scheduled for Dec. 7 in Richmond. It's hoped that this surgery, which will actually remove part of Charlie's brain, will stop the seizures.
The fundraising run/walk will begin at noon on Matteson Trail, 320 Butler Farm Road in Hampton, following an 11:30 a.m. check-in. Admission is by donation, and all proceeds will go to the Charlie Claire North Fund for medical expenses. Cash and checks will be collected at the check-in. Credit card donations may be made at www.teamcharlieclaire.blogspot.com, where participants can also find out more about Charlie and her life-threatening illness.
