ODU to Host CAA Undergraduate Research Conference April 13-15
For 10 years, schools that comprise the Colonial Athletic Association have combined their academic talents in the Colonial Academic Alliance, an organization that aims to enhance academic quality and opportunities in all of its member schools.
One of the signature events for the Alliance each year is the Undergraduate Research Conference, a symposium bringing together some of the best minds in undergraduate research at each school.
For the first time this spring, the Undergraduate Research Conference will be held at Old Dominion University, April 13-15.
Undergraduate students will present the results of their research and scholarship, from a wide range of disciplines, to an audience of fellow research students, faculty and administrators, as well as the ODU community.
"This will be a great opportunity for students and faculty from across member institutions to get involved in the CAA's active community of researchers and scholars," said Ivan Ash, director of undergraduate research with the Undergraduate Research Program at the ODU Honors College.
The 2012 conference will feature poster sessions and panel presentations. Each member institution is invited to submit up to 10 student presentations, two to three of which may be oral presentations.
ODU's participants in the conference are currently being selected from across different disciplines; the process includes a review of nominations from faculty who chaired sessions at the ODU Undergraduate Research Symposium in February.
All sessions of the Colonial Academic Alliance Undergraduate Research Conference will be open to the ODU community.
"We especially invite ODU undergraduate students who are interested in research to attend these conference presentation and poster sessions to find out more about the exciting research going on at ODU and our fellow CAA institutions," Ash said. "Faculty are also invited to attend sessions. It would be a great place to meet potential graduate student candidates from other CAA universities."
The Colonial Academic Alliance was founded in 2002 by the provosts of the institutions that comprise the Colonial Athletic Association, including ODU.
Headquartered in Sterling, Va., the Alliance develops, promotes and facilitates collaborative programs and resource sharing to enhance academic quality and institutional effectiveness throughout the member institutions.
Its goal in several strategic areas is to provide new and expanded opportunities for students, sustained information sharing and benchmarking, faculty and staff development, and a network through which unique programs and facilities are shared among all 12 institutions.
