FLAGS LOWERED IN HONOR OF FORMER REP. BROYHILL
Gov. Tim Kaine ordered the flags of the United States and Virginia at state facilities to be lowered in honor of Joel T. Broyhill, former member of the U.S. House of Representatives, who died Sept. 24 at his Arlington home. He was 86.
Broyhill was a Republican first elected to Congress in 1952 to represent the new 10th Congressional District in northern Virginia. He lost his seat in 1974, as the GOP suffered landslide defeats in reaction to the Watergate scandal.
The flag of the Commonwealth of Virginia will remain at half-staff until sunset on Oct. 11, per the governor's order.
