President Broderick to Deliver State of the University Address Aug. 21

Old Dominion University President John R. Broderick will deliver the annual State of the University address at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.

For the third straight year, the State of the University address will feature a breakfast gathering of local dignitaries, community leaders and faculty and staff. A crowd of more than 1,000 is expected to attend.

The doors will open at 7:30 a.m. for registration, with breakfast starting promptly at 8 a.m. Attendees are encouraged to be in their seats at that time because of the large attendance. Parking will be available in the 43rd Street garage.

Broderick, who has served as the university's eighth president since 2008, is credited for a number of initiatives that have enhanced the university's profile, including creating an enrollment management plan, a new division and state-of-the-art facilities for student success, the ODU Business Gateway, and the Climate Change and Sea Level Rise Initiative. He also helped shepherd the move of ODU's athletic teams to Conference USA, a move that was announced in May, and will see the Monarchs compete in the highest level of NCAA football.

Broderick also has been recognized for strengthening the university's prominence in modeling and simulation, bioelectrics and ports/maritime research areas. Additionally, under Broderick's leadership, the university has been named a "Great College to Work For" by The Chronicle of Higher Education for the past two years.
