75th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION KICK-OFF IS TODAY; JOIN THE FORMATION OF A GIANT 75 ON KAUFMAN MALL
Old Dominion University will officially kick-off its 75th anniversary celebration with a ceremony, cake and a larger-than-life "75" on Kaufman Mall at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20.
All students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members are invited to take a spot spelling out the gigantic "75" on the lawn. Overhead photographers will be on hand to mark the moment for posterity.
The birthday party will also feature the world premiere of "The Lion's Roar," an original piece composed by Old Dominion music professor Adolphus Hailstork specifically for the university's anniversary. Following a short program, everyone will receive free lunch and share in a giant birthday cake.
The kick-off celebration is the first in a series of events throughout the upcoming academic year that will commemorate the university's 75th anniversary. Other events include:

*Founders' Day Luncheon, Oct. 21
*Homecoming Week, Nov. 13-20
*Greek Reunion Weekend, Jan. 13-15

Old Dominion University was founded Sept. 12, 1930 as the Norfolk Division of The College of William and Mary. In 1962 it became an independent institution and in 1969 it achieved university status.
