SUBCOMMITTEE HEARING ON ALTERNATIVE ENERGY TO BE HELD AT ODU TODAY
The Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources will hold a field oversight hearing on "Renewable Ocean Energy: Tides, Currents and Waves" at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 18. Old Dominion professors David Basco and Patrick Hatcher will be giving testimony.
Open to the public, the hearing will be held in the Hampton-Newport News Room in Webb University Center. However, witnesses are by invitation only.
The hearing will focus on the status of alternative energy research on ocean tides, currents and waves, and will specifically examine opportunities for development in state waters and the federal Outer Continental Shelf.
Basco, professor of civil engineering and director of ODU's Coastal Engineering Center, and Hatcher, professor of chemistry and director of the College of Sciences Major Instrumentation Center, will discuss their research on the topic.
