NEW DOCTORAL PROGRAM IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE APPROVED
A new doctoral degree program in criminology and criminal justice at Old Dominion University has been approved by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia. The program will be launched in the fall of 2007.
"Last year the Chronicle for Higher Education and higherEd.com advertised over 300 jobs for professors and researchers and there were only 100 PhDs graduated in the discipline nationally," said Brian Payne, chair and professor of the criminal justice department at Old Dominion. "So there are plenty of jobs out there and not enough people to fill them."
Payne added, "This approval reflects the quality of our faculty who, all along have provided a top-notch program which can continue to grow and meet the needs of the Commonwealth and the nation."
