EXHIBIT EXAMINES "ART AND BUSINESS OF COMPOSITION" AT DIEHN COMPOSERS ROOM
The Diehn Composers Room of the University Libraries will present, "The Art and Business of Composition," an exhibit focusing on composition as a musical art and the business and legal considerations of publishing through Thursday, Nov. 30. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
Presented from the composers point of view, the exhibit includes examples of printed music from the 17th through 19th centuries to illustrate the use of wood block, copper engraving and lithography in music printing. Through oral histories and sketchbooks, several composers, including ODU Professor Adolphus Hailstork, communicate their ideas on creating music. The exhibit also demonstrates a basic step-by-step process to getting published and getting paid.
The exhibit will be available for public viewing from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Diehn Composers Room, 189 Diehn Fine and Performing Arts Center. A Web exhibit is also available at http://www.lib.odu.edu/musiclib/exhibits/art_business/index.htm.
