Both Virginia Gov. Mark Warner and Old Dominion University President Roseann Runte have urged the campus community to support relief efforts for the victims of Hurricane Katrina by donating to special relief funds set up through the Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign (CVC) and the Old Dominion University Credit Union.

In an e-mail to all state employees, Gov. Warner asked state agencies to mobilize the Virginia State Employee Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund. Beginning immediately and running through Sept. 16, a special fundraising campaign will be held through the CVC to support the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army. These two organizations have been approved through the CVC Office to receive these special relief donations, where 100% of the funds will go directly to aid the victims. All donations will be divided evenly between the two charities

Because of the immediate need for assistance, only cash and checks will be accepted. Checks should be written to "CVC-Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund" and can be sent to your area coordinator or to Lynda Shirk in the Budget Office.

Area coordinators are as follows:
Donna Meeks, Administration and Finance
Velvet Grant-Johnson, Office of the President
Heather Huling, Distance Learning
Karen Travis, Institutional Advancement
Alonzo Brandon, Development

President Roseann Runte has organized a special fund to assist those in our own community. Donations are being accepted by the Old Dominion University Credit Union in the form of cash, check or credit card. Donations may be made in person or through the mail to the ODU Credit Union, 2707 Hampton Blvd., Norfolk, Va. 23517. Credit card donations may also be made via telephone at 533-9308.
