U.S. REP. JIM OLIN DIES, FLAGS LOWERED
Gov. Tim Kaine ordered Virginia flags at state facilities to be lowered to half staff until sundown on Sunday, Aug. 13, in honor of U.S. Rep. Jim Olin. Olin died Saturday, Aug. 5 at the age of 86.
Olin was elected as a Democrat to the 98th Congress. He represented the Virginia's 6th district, which included Lynchburg and Roanoke, from 1983 to 1993, serving on the Agriculture Committee.
A graduate of California's Deep Springs College and Cornell University, Olin served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps and spent 35 years with General Electric, serving as the industrial electronics division's corporate vice president and general manager.
