CAVE BIOLOGY COURSE FEATURED IN CHRONICLE OF HIGHER EDUCATION
John Holsinger's "Cave Biology" course was featured in the Aug. 8 issue of the Chronicle of Higher Education. Holsinger, professor and eminent scholar of biological sciences at Old Dominion University, was interviewed by Piper Fogg, Chronicle assistant editor, for the publication's Syllabus Section, which outlines great courses.
For four days, students in Holsinger's class crawl through caves and areas underlain by limestone bedrock lined with sinkholes, underground streams and caverns to examine the life and ecosystems within this subterranean world. The whole trip covers 1,000 miles of scenic Appalachian terrain and six caves in three different areas through western Virginia and eastern West Virginia.
