FORMER ODU STUDENT NAMED CONN. GOVERNOR
Former Old Dominion University student M. Jodi Rell has been named the governor of Connecticut.
Former Gov. John G. Rowland will resign the office and Rell, only the second woman to take the oath of office in Connecticut history, will be sworn in July 1.
Born Mary Carolyn Reavis, Rell, 58, grew up in Norfolk, near the naval base where her father, Benjamin, worked. She attended Old Dominion University, but left ODU in 1967 to marry Navy pilot Louis R. Rell. They moved to Parsippany, N.J., when he began flying for Trans World Airlines, and then in 1969 to Brookfield, Conn., where they raised two children, Meredith and Michael.
