VERLANDER CHOSEN AS FLORIDA STATE LEAGUE ALL-STAR

Justin Verlander, the second overall pick out of Old Dominion University in last year's baseball amateur draft, was selected to the 43rd annual Florida State League All-Star Game June 18 at Bright House Networks Field in Clearwater, Fla.

Verlander is 8-2 with a 1.71 earned run average. He has 95 strikeouts in 79 innings pitched and has only walked 18 batters. He has completed two of his 12 starts. Verlander leads the Florida State league in strikeouts, and earned run average.

Verlander completed his career at ODU with 427 strikeouts in 335.2 innings which is the all-time record at ODU, the CAA and State of Virginia (Div. I.). He was the ODU Alumni Association's Male Athlete of the Year, finalists for the Roger Clemens (National Pitcher of the Year) award and his career strikeout average was 11.5 per game.
