OLD DOMINION APPOINTS INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY MANAGER
Zohir Handy, a consultant at NewGrowthWorks in Toronto, has joined Old Dominion University as intellectual property manager.
Handy will oversee research licensing activities on campus and be responsible for pursuing patents on inventions and ideas created by Old Dominion faculty and staff.
Handy, who has more than 30 years of marketing and business development experience, has served as assistant director of technology licensing at the University of Florida, where he oversaw a $400 million research budget and evaluated and managed the patenting, marketing and licensing of engineering, software and medical devices.
Prior to that, he was director of technology transfer for Materials & Manufacturing Ontario and general manager of Scharr Industries Canada.
As director of business development and corporate marketing at Consumers Packaging Inc., Handy launched three new technologies and negotiated technology licensing agreements for a $12 million sales gain. He also served as the company's general manager for the Plastic Bottle Division.
Handy has served on the Ontario Government Ministerial Advisory Taskforce and the Environment and Packaging Committees of Industry and is a member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario.
Handy received a bachelor's degree in engineering from the University of Toronto and an M.B.A. from the University of Western Ontario.
