SCHOENDIENST AND JONES SELECTED IN MAJOR LEAGUE DRAFT
Old Dominion University left-handed pitcher Needham Jones and junior shortstop Jesse Schoendienst were selected in the 2005 Major League Baseball Draft.
A native of Portsmouth, VA, Jones was selected in the 36th round by the Chicago Cubs. After spending two years on a Mormon Mission, he returned to ODU to have the Monarchs lowest earned run average of 3.55 in 2005. Jones made 22 appearances, striking out 31 batters in 38 innings.
Schoendienst hit .276 in 49 games for ODU this season. He hit two home runs, three doubles and one triple, scoring 23 times. Schoendienst also stole five bases in five attempts.
