ODU ATHLETES MAKE THE GRADE
The Virginia College Sports Information Directors selected Old Dominion University athletes Natalie Cahana, Attila Vendegh, Tara Herrmann and Geoff Harris to its Academic All-State squad.
Cahana and Vendegh were selected to the second team, while Harris and Herrmann were Honorable Mention selections.
Cahana is a tennis two-time All-American and three-time CAA Player of the Year. She compiled a 29-9 record and competed in the NCAA National Championships for the third straight year. Cahana, a junior is majoring in international business.
Vendegh earned CAA men's soccer Player of the Year honors for the second straight year. Already the all-time leading scorer in ODU history with 108 career points and 46 career goals, Vendegh earned first team Verizon/CoSIDA Academic All-American honors and was named the first recipient of the inaugural CAA Scholar-Athlete Award for soccer in the fall.He is majoring in international business.
Herrmann is a two-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association Academic All-American, and the Jack Wilkins/James Howard Scholar Athlete of the Year award at ODU. Herrmann scored 18 goals for the Lady Monarchs who won the CAA Championship and advanced to the NCAA semi-finals. She graduated with a degree in biology.
Harris captured the CAA Individual championship and helped lead the Monarchs to the school's first ever CAA Golf title and participation in the NCAA West Regional in Seattle, WA. Harris 71.76 stroke average is the lowest in school history. He graduated with a degree in sports management.
