DOUKAS LAUDED FOR RESEARCH ABILITIES
John A. Doukas, professor of finance and international finance, won Old Dominion's Outstanding Faculty Research Award by devoting his career not only to learning, but to sharing that newfound knowledge with students and colleagues.
He was nominated for the award by Mohammad Najand, chair of the business administration department. "Dr. Doukas is a prolific researcher who has consistently published in top journals in the area of finance," he said.
A noted researcher in the areas of corporate finance, international financial management, foreign investments, foreign exchange markets and international asset pricing, Doukas has published more than 55 articles in some of the field's most prestigious journals, including European Financial Management, the leading scientific journal in European finance, of which he is the founder and managing editor.
He also is editor of the European Finance Abstracts Journal, a Financial Economics Network publication of Social Science Electronic Publishing Inc. and the Social Science Research Network.
He has presented extensively at both national and international meetings and conferences, and his work is cited frequently by his peers, indicating the quality of his work and the respect he garners from scholars within his field.
Doukas has published seven books and is the co-editor of the JAI Press Annual Research Series in International Business and Finance.
Doukas joined the Old Dominion faculty in 1989 as chair of the finance department and director of the Real Estate Center and the Insurance and Financial Services Center. He held the three positions simultaneously until 1993.
In 1999, he was a Distinguished Senior Research Fellow at Cardiff Business School in the United Kingdom and was a Ph.D. external examiner for the Hanken Swedish School of Economics and Business Administration in Helsinki, Finland.
His visiting professorships include Alba in Athens, Greece, the City University Business School in London, Gothenburg University in Sweden and the University of Innsbruck in Austria.
Professor Doukas earned his doctorate in financial economics and international finance in 1982 from New York University's Stern School of Business.
