Luisa Igloria, associate professor on the faculty of the Creative Writing Program and the English Department at Old Dominion University, was a guest at a recent book launch and panel discussion titled "Transcending Nostalgia: Writing in the Filipino Diaspora" at the San Francisco Public Library.

Igloria, the editor of the anthology "Not Home, But Here: Writing from the Filipino Diaspora" (Anvil, 2003), was part of a panel of authors of new books. Other authors on the panel included Eileen Tabios, author of "Behind the Blue Canvas"; Reme-Antonia Grefalda, editor of "Our Own Voice"; and Barbara Jane Reyes, poet, author of "Gravities of Center."

One of Igloria's poems, "The Birdcage Maker," also was won first prize in this year's FUGUE literary journal award competition. More information about the author and her work is available at http://www.freewebs.com/thepoetslizard.

Her work will be featured at a book event/signing to promote the new anthology of Filipino women's poetry and fiction, "Going Home to a Landscape" (Calyx Books, 2003) at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 28, at Barnes and Noble in Virginia Beach.
