THREE STUDENTS NAMED ARTHUR ASHE SCHOLARS

Student-athletes Mily Kannarkat of Virginia Beach, Hamchetou Maiga of Bamako, Mali, and Jennifer Shaw of Alexandria, Va., were selected recently as 2000 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars.

To qualify for the award, a candidate must be a student of color and have a grade point average of 3.20 or higher.

Kannarkat, a sophomore on the women's tennis team, carries a 3.96 GPA in biology/pre-med. Maiga, a star forward on the Lady Monarch basketball squad, carries a 3.55 GPA in information systems. Shaw, a top defender on the lacrosse team, has a 3.24 GPA in marketing.
