JAMES BROWN NAMED STAFF MEMBER OF THE YEAR
James H. Brown III, secretary senior in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, was recognized as Old Dominion University's Staff Member of the Year by the Hourly and Classified Employees Association at its annual luncheon May 10.
Cleo Phillips of the Department of Ocean, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences was the Rookie Staff Member of the Year.
Other nominees for Staff Member of the Year were: Eric Allen, Weekend College; Linda Baker, Department of Military Science; Patricia Blackmoore, Parking Services; Lynn Brown, Department of Communication and Theatre Arts; Rebecca Granger, Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences; Sharon Melone-Orme, College of Sciences; Margaret Strachan, Financial Aid; Christine Stringfield-Ricks, Office of Advising Services; Lori White, Distance Learning; and Kim Wint, Early Child, Speech Pathology & Special Education.
Other nominees for Rookie Staff Member of the Year were: Jennifer Barksdale, Accounting Office; Pansy Cherry, Public Safety; Sheila Harris, Interdisciplinary Studies; Carol McIntyre, Teacher Education Services; Juan Moore, OCCS; and Lois Simmons, Parking Services.
HACE President Bobby Powell of the physics department was presented a plaque in honor of his service to HACE over the past 25 years. A charter member of the organization, Powell completed his most recent two-year stint as president of the group. His successor is Fern McDougal of Perry Library. Other officers sworn in at the ceremony are: Pat Beauter, first vice president; Theresa Matthews, second vice president; Lennis Whitaker, corresponding secretary; Phyllis Brown, recording secretary; and Judy Smith, treasurer.
