The Office of Finance has designed a multi-section training program that focuses on the business practices needed by budget units.

There are seven required sessions with a review session offered to help employees prepare for the exam. Employees may begin participating in the program any time during the year. The review session and exam are offered twice yearly (June and November). Participants who complete all required courses and pass the exam are awarded a certificate in university financial management. Please call Kathie Parker, communications and training coordinator in the Office of finance, at 683-3267 for more information.

Space is still available for the "Employing Students" class from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, May 5, in Webb University
Center's Hampton/Newport News Room. Topics covered include: information about employment of all types of student workers, student eligibility requirements, completing the I-9 and the E-1S forms, time slip procedures, problem resolution, suggestions for acclimating students to the workplace, providing feedback, and dealing with student performance problems. Payroll issues include: achieving payroll status, when the first paycheck will be received, terminating students, fiscal year transitions, and tax exemption issues. Course will be presented by Kathie Parker.

The registration form is available online at http://www.odu.edu/af/humanresources/training/finance.pdf. THe form must be signed by a supervisor (for release time) and returned to Human Resources.
