FORMER BOARD MEMBER HARRY "BEAU" PRICE DIES
Harry Borum "Beau" Price III, a former member of the Old Dominion University Board of Visitors, died April 22, 2007, in Virginia Beach. He was 70.
Price was appointed twice by governors of Virginia to the ODU board, where he served from 1983 to 1991. Additionally, he taught at the Old Dominion Institute of Management.
Born in Norfolk Aug. 25, 1936, Price graduated from Norfolk Academy and Hampden Sydney College where he was a member of Chi Phi Fraternity. In the past 20 years, Beau worked in several fields. He was president of a small consulting business, Family Business Advisors, and conducted business planning and estate planning with John S. Pugh & Associates and Cape Financial Inc. He was an instructor of management and leadership seminars and management coaching with the Teren Company and taught at the College of William and Mary Center for Executive and Professional Development. For the past 17 years, he has served as a trustee in bankruptcy with the United States Department of Justice, Eastern District of Virginia.
Price also served on the boards of United Way, the Norfolk Chamber of Commerce, WHRO, Crestar Bank (SunTrust), Virginia Beach General Hospital, Greater Norfolk Corporation, Town Point Club, Junior Achievement, National Association of Radio-TV Dealers of America, Norfolk State University Foundation, Sales and Marketing Executives of Tidewater, Virginia Retail Merchants Association, the Urban League and the Virginia Wesleyan College President's Advisory Council. He served on the Norfolk Academy Board of Trustees for more than 20 years and was involved in finance and development at the school from the time he graduated until the present.
Price is survived by his wife of 43 years, Elizabeth Wilson "Betsy" Price; three sons, Scott Wilson Price and his wife Virginia Barrett "Gigi" Price, Mark Deitrick Price and his wife Whitney Lynn Price and Timothy Denny Price; three grandsons, Evan Michael Price, Seth Deitrick Price and Benjamin Murray Price; and two brothers, Bruce Deitrick Price and Michael Wayne Price.
Visitation with the family will be Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. in Stanton Hall at First Presbyterian Church of Virginia Beach, 300 36th St., Virginia Beach, VA 23451. After a private burial, there will be a memorial service conducted by the Rev. Stephen Ratliff in First Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. Thursday. A reception afterwards will be in Stanton Hall. H.D.
