FISHER BRIEFS BOARD OF VISITORS ON INSTITUTIONAL REVIEW
The author of a 123-page institutional review briefed the Old Dominion University Board of Visitors Thursday morning about the report's findings.
The review, by James L. Fisher, was commissioned by the Presidential Search Committee as a document to give prospective candidates an objective picture of the university and offer ideas about the qualities Old Dominion's next president will need. James V. Koch has announced that he will step down as president on July 1, 2001.
Fisher, who also did a review for the university in 1989, prior to Koch's selection for the post, is the former president of Towson State University and of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education.
At its meeting on Thursday, the Board of Visitors agreed to invite Fisher back to campus in the next few weeks to meet with the board again, since some members indicated they needed more time to read the document.
Edward L. Hamm Jr., board rector, described the review as "an independent piece of work by Dr. Fisher and his team" and said the board's decision to make it a public document "does not connote any agreement or disagreement" by the board with its findings.
