"WALK TO REMEMBER" TO HONOR FALLEN SOLDIERS APRIL 21
More than 3,600 pink carnations will be released into the Lafayette River to commemorate fallen service members from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan during Old Dominion University's "The Walk to Remember" Saturday, April 21.
Organized by ODU's Military Student Union, the walk will begin with a memorial service at 1 p.m. at the Ted Constant Convocation Center. Hundreds of students and faculty, military personnel and community members will then march east on 45th Street and north on Colley Avenue to the bridge, where they will release the floral tribute.
In addition to honoring the sacrifice made by the fallen service members, the walk will raise funds for the Matthew Wallace Patriot Scholarship at Old Dominion. The scholarship, which offers financial aid to the families of men and women wounded or killed in action, is named in memory of the brother of an ODU student who died in 2006 as a result of injuries he sustained in Iraq.
Anyone interested in participating in the walk or donating to the Matthew Wallace Patriot Scholarship can find more information at http://www.odu.edu/memorialwalk or by calling Brandon Oswald at 377-0328.
