VISITING YIDDISH SCHOLAR TO LECTURE MARCH 26

Dr. Jeremy Dauber of Columbia University will speak on spirit possession in 17th-century Jewish literature on Sunday, March 26, from 2:30-3:30 in MGB 102.

Dr. Dauber is the author of Antonio's Angels: Writers of the Jewish Enlightenment and the Birth of Modern Hebrew and Yiddish Literature (Stanford UP).

After Dr. Dauber's lecture-from 4-5:30--there will be a screening of the 1937 Yiddish musical comedy, Der Purimshpiler. Der Purimshpiler tells the story of an itinerant actor who falls in love a girl of comparatively higher social standing. Her family disapproves of the romance, intending to have her marry a man of wealth, so the actor goes to near-impossible lengths to win that approval.
