James V. Koch, president of Old Dominion University, has received the Marian Palmer Capps Award from the Urban League of Hampton Roads for outstanding contribution to education.

During the Urban League annual dinner last week, the league also announced that President Koch beginning next year will have an Urban League award named in his honor. He will become the first non-African-American to be so honored by the organization.

The Capps Award is named after was one of the founding members of the Urban League of Hampton Roads. She is a professor emeritus at Norfolk State University and a community activist.
