The Old Dominion University Monarchs (21-9) will take on the Buffaloes of the University of Colorado (20-9), Wednesday night at 9:30 p.m. in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament as announced. This will be the first meeting between the two schools. The Monarchs are a fifth seed, while Colorado is a fourth seed.

Colorado is led by Richard Roby, a 6-6 sophomore guard averaging 17.4 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. Chris Copeland, a 6-8 senior forward is second on the team in scoring at 12.1 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. Colorado was 9-7 in the Big 12.

The Monarchs have not played since losing in the CAA quarterfinal round to Northeastern, 71-63. Colorado lost in the Big12 quarterfinals to Texas A&M. ODU is led by All-CAA performer Alex Loughton and Isaiah Hunter.

This is ODU's first NIT appearance since 1999 and tenth overall selection since the Monarchs went Division I in 1976-77.

The University of Maryland (18-10) is the top seed and will play the winner of the Manhattan (18-10)/Fairliegh Dickinson (20-11) game. Fellow
CAA member Hofstra earned a third seed and will host Nebraska.
