PHYSICS COLLOQUIUM SPEAKERS WILL DESCRIBE NEW TEACHING STRATEGIES FOR LARGE CLASSES
Two Clemson University faculty members will describe a new teaching strategy for large-enrollment undergraduate courses-called SCALE-UP-at the Old Dominion University Department of Physics Spring Colloquium on Tuesday, Jan. 29, in the Oceanography and Physics Building.
SCALE-UP stands for student-centered activities for large-enrollment undergraduate programs, and it promotes social interactions between students and teachers in specially designed classrooms. Socratic-like dialogues and student collaboration are key aspects of the strategy.
Clemson faculty members Scott Schiff, in civil engineering, and Judy Cottingham, in math, will present the colloquium at 3 p.m. in Room 200.
They also will lead an hour-long workshop beginning at 12:30 p.m. in Room 144. Those interested in attending the workshop should contact Larry Weinstein, professor of physics, at lweinste@odu.edu.
