Exhibits set up for Thursday's remembrance of the anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation, titled "Let Freedom Ring," will remain up in Webb University Center's center cafeteria through 1 p.m. today.
The exhibits, with excerpts from historical documents including the Declaration of Independence and the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s Nobel Prize acceptance speech, were were part of a welcoming area for the Thursday night ceremony and lecture by author Eric Sheppard. Members of the Old Dominion University Speech Chorus read dramatic interpretations of the pieces excerpted in each exhibit.
The lecture was sponsored by Old Dominion University's Hugo A. Owens African American Cultural Center, as well as the offices of Community Relations and Multicultural Student Services.
