Events Slated to Commemorate VMASC's 10th Anniversary
A visit by Governor Tim Kaine highlights a week-long slate of events, meetings and celebrations planned to showcase 10 years of achievement at Old Dominion University's Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center, VMASC.
The signature event of the week will be the 10th anniversary celebration, set to begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 9 at the VMASC headquarters in "Sim City," along the Portsmouth - Suffolk city lines. Guest speaker for the event is Gov. Kaine, an ardent supporter of the M&S industry in Virginia.
The center's commemoration begins at 10 a.m., April 7 with "Industry Day," an opportunity for regional business partners and VMASC researchers to display and discuss collaborative efforts, research topics and ongoing initiatives.
The Industry Board of Advisors will meet with government and academia representatives at Noon, April 8 for the VMASC Membership Meeting. The groups will update the gathering, provide feedback and receive a "State of VMASC" presentation from its Executive Director, Mike McGinnis.
Following Wednesday's formal anniversary celebration, students from across the nation will take center stage. Thursday's event will focus on the educational side of the M&S industry, in the day-long Student Capstone Conference. There, students will present their research to a diverse group and judges who will present awards to the winners. Keynote speaker for the Capstone Awards banquet, slated to begin at 6:30, is Third District Congressman Robert C. Scott.
