'Guesstimation' Book Signing Is Thursday at Noon

Old Dominion University faculty members Lawrence Weinstein and John Adam will be at the University Village Bookstore to sign copies of their new book, "Guesstimation: Solving the World's Problems on the Back of a Cocktail Napkin," beginning at noon on Thursday, April 24.

The book, published by Princeton University Press, arrived in bookstores on April 21 with a tailwind behind it. The publisher reported unexpectedly strong advance orders, and that it had run out of review manuscripts because there were so many requests from media for copies.

"Guesstimation" gives more than 80 examples of how to make useful, ballpark estimates by breaking complex problems into more manageable ones. Weinstein is a physicist and Adam a mathematician.

The book signing will last at least an hour, and longer if necessary to accommodate the turnout.
