Old Dominion University requires every F-1 student to purchase the ODU AETNA Student Health Insurance Policy.  This insurance is mandatory.  Medical costs in the U.S. are extremely high, and there are no government programs to cover expenses if an F-1 student needs to see a doctor or be hospitalized.  Purchasing health insurance helps protect you against the high cost of health care and ensures that medical costs will not keep you from attending classes.

Students will purchase health insurance during the first week of classes.
