Unaffiliated Programs

A study abroad opportunity is considered to be "unaffiliated" when Old Dominion University does not have a formal agreement with the organization or program provider. All programs that are affiliated with Old Dominion University are listed as either exchange programs or as affiliated programs.

The Office of Study Abroad trusts that students can find an appropriate study abroad option amongst its affiliated and exchange programs. However we realize that it is possible that some students have particular needs or academic objectives that require participating in a program outside of ODU affiliated options. The Office of Study Abroad will institute a new policy starting Fall 2010 that will require students who wish to participate in an unaffiliated program to petition for approval of the program before they apply to the Office of Study Abroad.

The document below outlines the Unaffiliated Program policy and the petitioning process. Students must fill out the form and supply the required documents by the Unaffiliated Program Petition deadline.
