ODU Community Mourns the Loss of Dr. Katherine Treherne
I was honored to have been selected as one of the speakers at Dr. Katherine Treherne's funeral Saturday at Christ and Saint Luke's Church.
Dr. Treherne, a board certified dermatologist, served on the ODU Board of Visitors for six-plus years. She was appointed by Governor Mark Warner and then reappointed by Governor Tim Kaine.
As anyone who knew her would expect, Dr. Treherne's main interest as a board member was doing all she could do to help ODU's 24,000 students. She served on the board's academic affairs committee and chaired the student affairs committee for the past two years. Despite her hectic schedule as a mother of four, operating her own practice and battling cancer, she rarely missed a board meeting or activity.
Dr. Treherne was a remarkable human being in every way one could measure. She will be missed by all members of the ODU community, including our Board of Visitors. The University honored Dr. Treherne by lowering its flag over the weekend and will present a resolution of thanks to her husband, Dr. Robert Treherne, at a board function this fall.
Old Dominion University is a better place because of her involvement.
