ELIGIBILITY: The applicant must
- be a United States citizen, noncitizen national, or permanent resident of the United States;
- be currently enrolled in or applying to a doctoral degree program in nursing or a related field of research;
- meet requirements for doctoral study and have been accepted by the institution to which he or she has applied at the time of funding;
- have a current license to practice as a registered nurse;
- project a program of study that integrates cancer nursing and provides evidence of faculty support for the program of study; and
- demonstrate a commitment to cancer nursing as evidenced by recent experience, education, or research in the specialty area, or any combination thereof.
The program must be offered within an accredited academic institution in the United States that can award a doctoral degree in nursing or a related field of research. The program must offer an affiliation with an organized multidisciplinary program in cancer control or cancer care that allows the applicant the flexibility to develop educational and research activities related to cancer nursing. Also, the program of study must be planned with faculty who are experts in the applicant's field of study and can guide the student's educational experiences.
Students who are admitted to B.S.N.-Ph.D. programs without first having earned a master's degree are eligible to apply for the Doctoral Degree Scholarship in Cancer Nursing. However, they should first apply for support via the Master's Degree Scholarship in Cancer Nursing, and subsequently apply for a Doctoral Degree Scholarship. These students may not receive Doctoral Degree Scholarship funding until they have completed any required master's level coursework.

The master's degree scholarship provides $10,000 annually for subsistence and tuition expenses. Scholarship payments will be made to the institution office designated on the activation form; payments are made once yearly at the beginning of the year. The institution may not charge indirect costs to the scholarship. Scholarships become effective on August 1 and must be renewed at the end of the first year. Second-year funding is contingent upon satisfactory progress in the program as documented in the annual progress report, and may be prorated if the student will graduate before the end of the academic year.
ELIGIBILITY: At the time of the application, applicants must be U.S. citizens, noncitizen nationals, or permanent residents of the United States. The applicant must be currently enrolled in or applying to a master's degree graduate program with demonstrated integration of cancer nursing content. The applicant must meet requirements for graduate study and at the time of funding have been accepted by the institution to which her or she has applied. The institution must verify the applicant's acceptance into the master's degree program. The applicant must have a current license to practice as a registered nurse. Applicants in "bridge" programs, e.g., B.S.N. to M.S.N. programs, must be licensed at the time the award is to begin. The applicant may not already possess a master's degree in nursing.
A successful applicant is one who
- has experience in professional nursing as well as cancer nursing;
- is involved in professional and academic organizations;
- is involved in the ACS and other volunteer organizations;
- has published or contributed to publications and creative works;
- is the recipient of professional and academic awards and honors;
- has considered program content, faculty, and clinical resources in selecting a master's program;
- has a focus for scholarly activity in a specific area of cancer nursing;
- has made a career commitment to cancer nursing; and;
- has explicit and realistic professional goals.
The applicant's program must be offered within an academic institution in the United States that can award a master's degree in nursing with demonstrated integration of cancer nursing content. If not an oncology program, the institution must document how appropriate didactic and clinical oncology content will be obtained. The program of graduate studies in nursing must be accredited by the National League for Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. The institution must designate a faculty member responsible for the oncology nursing content in the curriculum or program of study proposed for the applicant. It is recommended that the school of nursing within or associated with the academic institution offer a program of study compatible with the courses and content outlined in The Master's Degree with a Specialty in Advanced Practice Oncology Nursing Curriculum Guide (Fourth Edition, 2003), published by the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) with input from the ACS. The clinical practice component should include
- an affiliation with an organized program of services that offers a comprehensive, coordinated, multidisciplinary program for cancer control including prevention, early detection, treatment, ambulatory care, acute care, home care, hospice care, rehabilitation, and other types of follow-up services; and
- a strong clinical component including courses with specific objectives, learning activities, and evaluation plans consistent with curriculum guidelines for advanced preparation in the following areas of cancer nursing: research, education, administration, and clinical practice.

The applicant must sign and submit a contract with the application. The contract is for the 2009-2010 school academic year with contracts for up to three optional subsequent school academic years, not to exceed a total of four school years of scholarship support.
AMOUNT_NOTE: The scholarship consists of payment for tuition, fees, other reasonable educational costs, and a monthly support stipend. During the 2009-2010 academic year, the Nursing Scholarship Program will pay a full-time student a stipend based on a monthly stipend amount of $1,233 (before federal taxes). If funded, a part-time student would receive a proportional stipend amount.
ELIGIBILITY: Scholarship applicants must be citizens or nationals of the United States to receive Nursing Scholarship awards. To be considered for a scholarship award for the 2009-2010 academic year, applicants must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a nursing degree program and must begin classes for the Fall term on or after July 1, 2009, and no later than September 30, 2009, in one of the following:
1. Associate degree school of nursing
2. Collegiate school of nursing
3. Diploma school of nursing
Applicants may be enrolled as full-time or part-time students; however, a funding preference will be given to full-time students.
Programs must be accredited by an accrediting body or state agency recognized by the Department of Education (e.g., the National League for Nurses Accrediting Commission, the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education) before the application deadline. The schools and educational programs for which scholarship support is requested must be in a state. Students attending schools outside of these geographic areas are not eligible for Nursing Scholarships, even though they may be citizens of the United States.
Students enrolled in LPN programs, self-paced study programs, bridge programs, and dual degree programs are not eligible. Students who are delinquent on a federal debt are not eligible.
Applicants who are already obligated to a federal, state, or other entity for professional practice or service after academic training (except for military reservists) are not eligible for Nursing Scholarship awards, unless the obligated service will be completed by no later than the graduation date from the scholarship funded nursing program. An exception may be made if the obligating entity provides documentation that there is no potential conflict in fulfilling the service commitment to the Nursing Scholarship Program and that the Nursing Scholarship Program service commitment will be served first.
Individuals in the Reserve component of the Armed Forces or National Guard are eligible to participate in the NSP.

ABSTRACT: The NSP is a competitive federal program that awards scholarships to individuals for attendance at schools of nursing. ABSTRACT: The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (HSFC) supports cardiovascular and cerebrovascular research.\\The Nursing Research Fellowship is an in-training award for those undertaking graduate studies in some area of cardiovascular or cerebrovascular nursing. The primary purpose of the award is to provide funds for research training and study in the cardiovascular or cerebrovascular field. Purely clinical non-research or educational fellowships are not awarded.\\For master's degree candidates, the program must include a requirement for a research project or thesis. Applications for postdoctoral support will also be considered.\\Nursing research fellowships are normally tenable in Canada but may be awarded to Canadian applicants for study abroad, if justified.\\During tenure, the award holder is expected to devote at least 75 percent of his or her time to training, development, and research in the cardiovascular or cerebrovascular field. The award holder may engage in and receive remuneration for departmental activities, including undergraduate teaching, that are contributory to individual development as a research worker and that do not interfere with the primary purpose of the award.
