If you experience any computer or printer related problems at the VBHEC, please proceed as follows:
(1) Call the help desk at 683-3192 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
(2) Give your name, problem, location as the Virginia Beach Higher Education Center, your office room number, and contact phone number
(3) If an OCCS technician is in the building, they will be notified to assist you, but each problem must be logged into the system first.
The Virginia Beach Higher Education Center offers shared faculty office space for faculty to use. To request a key to a faculty office, please submit a VBHEC Shared Faculty Office Space and Key Request form (see Forms section).
It is essential that you identify the day and time of day you plan to use the shared office space. The shared office at times may be jointly occupied. A VBHEC Shared Faculty Office Space and Key Request form can be sent to Connie Vecerkauskas via fax (757) 368-4109 or email at email@example.com.
A 20-station laptop cart is available for checkout to Old Dominion University faculty for instructional classroom use at the VBHEC. Please review the Laptop Cart Checkout Policies and Procedures and complete the Online Laptop Cart Reservation Form if you would like to reserve the cart for your classroom.
Please see staff at the Admin or Learning Commons desks for classroom supplies (dry erase markers and erasers) if there are none available in your classroom.
Audio/Visual Equipment requests are made by completing a Room & Media Application (see Forms page). The following equipment is available on a first come, first serve basis
- 35mm slide projector
- 16mm movie projector
- cassette tape player
- data projector
- laptop computer
- video camera
- flip chart and pads
All classrooms are equipped with a VCR/DVD player, monitor, overhead transparency projector, and whiteboard.
You may either fax a copy to 368-4109 or drop your completed form at either the Administration or Learning Commons desk. A photocopier is available for faculty use in Room 146A and is equipped to accept your Department's copy card.
Disposal of student materials
Harvey Logan from the Recycling Department offers a service to pick up confidential student materials that require disposal from the VBHEC. He will pick up items for disposal the 1st and 16th of each month. If these dates fall on a weekend or holiday, then pick up will be the next business day. Please secure your items in a sealed box, mark for destruction, and drop off at the security office, Room 141, the day before the scheduled pick up date.
On Campus Equipment/Reservation
To check out equipment or reserve space through OCCS Classroom Central on campus, please fill out a Classroom Central Equipment Request Form or Classroom Central Reservation Form.
Wireless Local Area Networking (WLAN)
WLAN is available at VBHEC. You must have a valid Old Dominion University account (MIDAS ID) and a laptop with wireless capabilities. For more information on requirements go to the Wireless LAN web page of OCCS.
Center for Learning and Teaching (CLT)
CLT offers various faculty development workshops. Registration information is available at the Center for Learning Technologies website. Two new Faculty Resource Guides - Blackboard Quick Reference and Faculty Accounts Quick Reference - are available as PDF documents on the CLT website under the Faculty Support Resources section.
Two 25-seat instructional computer classrooms are available for use through Computer Services. Reservations can be made by contacting Sandi Reardon, the Lab Reservations Coordinator, at firstname.lastname@example.org or (757) 828-6381.
