Graduate Program

Old Dominion University's Department of Biological Sciences offers graduate programs leading to a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences and an M.S. in Biology with emphasis in Biotechnology. Students in either program find support by programs in the Center for Biotechnology which provide not only research opportunities, but employment opportunities. Through grants and contracts, the Center for Biotechnology regularly provides academic opportunities to 10 to 15 graduate students who work in projects originating through faculty projects in the Center. The graduate programs provide for interdisciplinary projects where students of aquaculture develop molecular biology techniques in speciating organisms, students interested in medical applications work with companies interested in developing new biomedical applications of their technologies, and many of these efforts lead to employment by the sponsoring Company.
