Percussion Experience, Passion, Drive, Motivation. What to all these words have in common? They’re all adjectives that describe Old Dominion University’s Community Music Academy instructors. All ODU CMA instructors are highly qualified individuals who not only posses the knowledge of the instrument, but also the passion for teaching it. Whether a novice or advanced, our instructors teach students the principals of their instruments that help build a foundation for the rest of their lives. BRYAN MAURER—OFFICE MANAGER, PERCUSSION Bryan Maurer is currently a senior seeking his Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Composition under the tutelage of Andrey Kasparov. Bryan was a Drum Corps International Member of Carolina Crown Drum & Bugle Corps (1994-1995) and Tarheel Sun Drum & Bugle Corps (1997). As a composition student he has been awarded several scholarships including Diehn Fine Arts, the Charles Vogan Award for Composition, and the Brenheiser Award for Composition. As an educator he is a member of the Percussive Arts Society and has been actively involved as adjunct percussion instructor for Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach, teaching both marching and concert percussion programs year round since 2004. As a composer/arranger his music has been performed by several area high schools, including Kellam, Salem, and Princess Anne, as well as the ODU Percussion Ensemble.
