Experience, Passion, Drive, Motivation. What to all these words have in common? They’re all adjectives that describe Old Dominion University’s Community Music Academy instructors. All ODU CMA instructors are highly qualified individuals who not only posses the knowledge of the instrument, but also the passion for teaching it. Whether a novice or advanced, our instructors teach students the principals of their instruments that help build a foundation for the rest of their lives.

Christopher Cook- Trumpet and MIDI

As a trumpeter, Christopher Cook's experience is diverse. He has performed with chamber groups, jazz ensembles and the Louisville Orchestra. He received the Doctor of Music degree from Indiana University where he served as Assistant Professor of Composition, Assistant Director of the Center for Electronic and Computer Music, and Assistant Director of the New Music Ensemble. His compositions have won numerous awards and are widely performed in festival and university settings. Recently, he was awarded a commission from the Fromm Music Foundation at Harvard University. Dr. Cook studied with renowned trumpeters Vince DiMartino, Leon Rapier, and Charles Gorham.
