Welcome to my website. I am an associate professor in the MA in Applied Linguistics in the Department of English at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. With my colleagues, Bridget Anderson, Janet Bing, and Alla Zareva, I teach courses in support of the Applied Linguistics MA (both sociolinguistics and TESOL tracks) and undergraduate linguistics classes for English and education majors. I also teach classes in discourse analysis and discourse and culture for the Ph.D. in English. My research focuses on functional approaches to language structure, in particular the ways in which meaning and participant interaction contribute to grammatical and lexical patterning in English conversations.
