Dr. Katharine C. Kersey
Dr. Kersey is Professor of Early Childhood Education and Chairperson of the Department of Early Childhood, Speech Language Pathology and Special Education at Old Dominion University, where she has been on the faculty since l969. She has authored three books - The Art of Sensitive Parenting, Helping Your Child Handle Stress, and Don’t Take It Out On Your Kids, and co-authored a fourth book, The First Year Teacher, published by the National Education Association.

Dr. Kersey wrote a weekly column entitled Raising Children, and Parents, Too,which appeared for twelve years in The Virginian-Pilot Ledger Star, The Roanoke Times, and other syndicated newspapers. She is frequently called upon by local television stations, newspaper and other popular media to discuss family, parent and child related issues. She has appeared on several national talk shows, including "Oprah", "Sonya Live", CNN, and the Les Brown Show.

Dr. Kersey received the 2005 Outstanding Faculty Award from the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia and is the author of The 101s: A Guide to Positive Discipline which has received three national awards for standards of excellence.

Dr. Kersey is married to Dr. Wilbur Kersey and they have three grown children: Dr. Barbara Kersey, a family therapist, two sons, David and Marc, both engineers in the construction business, and three grandchildren.

Dr. Kersey has dedicated her personal and professional life to the needs and concerns of families in today’s world, with the hope that some day the world will be a safer and better place for children.
