The process of design is unique and multi-layered. It encompasses the aesthetic and the practical. It incorporates the use of the arts, the crafts, and the intellect. In the theatre it is compounded, and yet complimented, by the collaborative nature of a team of individuals working jointly towards a common goal.

The enigmatic nature of production design can lead to an intricate art form that offers the viewer a work of infinitely more complex images and ideas than is often found in the work of a single artist. Two components of this process are integral to its success: collaboration and unity.

Collaboration through communication both graphical and conceptual between a team of individuals interpreting the work of the playwright/artist, and Unity through the common interests of a unilaterally shared goal.

These ideas shape my approach to design. These concepts have become the foundation that support the work that I do in the classroom.
