MGMT 896 (PhD) - Independent Study: CARMA

Lecture 3 hours; 3 credits. Prerequisite: MGMT 840. Advanced study in selected topics in management planning, strategy and policy under the direction of one or more faculty in the Management Department.  

MGMT 840 (PhD) - Strategy Classics

Lecture 3 hours; 3 credits. This course covers the classic texts and papers in the field of strategic management. This course will also include a discussion of the great debates within the field.  

MGMT 695 (MBA) - Innovation, Intellectual Property, and Technology Based Venturing

Lecture 1 hour; 1 credit. The purpose of this course is to gain understanding of how intellectual property processes and strategies affect business practices. How to use patents and other intellectual property for competitive advantage in entrepreneurial and intrepreneurial settings are discussed. An emphasis is given to how intellectual property will shape the future of business, both domestically and globally. Students will work together to find solutions to problems found in the text, current media, and case studies.

MGMT 620 (MBA) - New Venture Creation

Lecture 3 hours; 3 credits. Prerequisites: ACCT 601, BNAL 600, ECON 604, MGMT 602, and MKTG 603. This course will immerse students in the process of conceiving, developing, launching, and running a business. Students will experience the earliest stages of forming a business and learn the mechanisms and factors that lead to successful new ventures. This course will prepare students to intensively create, intelligently evaluate and insightfully manage new ventures.

MGMT 485 - Business Policy and Strategy

Lecture and discussion 3 hours; 3 credits. Corequisite: OPMT 303. Prerequisites: A grade of C or better in ENGL 211C or 221C or 231C; senior standing, FIN 323, MGMT 325, MKTG 311, and a declared major in the University or permission of the Dean's Office of the CBPA. Strategic management addresses the concerns of the high level executive or general manager, who must use a perspective that is qualitatively different from that of the lower-level functional manager or operations manager. Strategic decisions cut across functional lines. Whereas other courses focus on competency at a functional level (Are we doing things right?), this course deals with the overall effectiveness of the total organization (Are we doing the right things?). (This is a writing intensive course.).

MGMT 426 - Entrepreneurship

Lecture 3 hours; 3 credits. Prerequisites: MGMT 325, MKTG 311, and ACCT 201, and a declared major in the University or permission of the Dean's Office of the CBPA. A study of the essential elements leading to entrepreneurial and intrapreneurial success with emphasis on the creation, structure and management of new ventures. A recommended elective for business students.
