Syllabus

 

Purpose of the Course

 

This course provides students with an introduction to theory, research, and practice of communication in small groups.  The course seeks to increase students' theoretical knowledge about group communication processes and provide opportunities to experience, observe, and analyze group communication in the classroom.

 

Course Goals

 

·        Increase students' understanding of concepts and theories of group communication by means of readings, lectures, and discussions.

    

·        Increase students' observational and analytical abilities with respect to group communication by means of classroom experiences, an experiential journal, and analytic papers.

 

·        Increase students' awareness of salient communication variables and processes operative in their everyday  group communication by means of classroom group experiences, an experiential journal, and analytical papers.  

 

·        Increase students' knowledge about group communication research methodology by means of readings, lectures, classroom experiences, and analytical papers.
